Odissi 3.HEIC

When I dance, I connect with the music in a literal sense. It allows me space for expression, a release from the mundane, everyday activities of life. It energizes me physically and spiritually.

Every performance seems to represent my tryst with the art; a moment of truth in a cosmic connection that runs through music, rhythm, and movement.

Dance, therefore, is very much a part of my identity. Odissi being a classical Indian dance form, specifically allows me to imbibe a deep sense of pride in my cultural heritage. It defines me and helps bind my family, my community and my culture.

My inspiration to dance is my mother. I have seen her dance since I was a toddler and I guess my feet never stopped tapping. In addition to training in Odissi, I often choreograph and perform Bollywood, folk and fusion dance as well

Odissi Repertoire

I started formal instruction in Odissi at the age of 8 and have trained under the tutelage of Guru Madhura Sarkar and Guru Sohini Bose. Both Madhura and Sohini are disciples of Guru Poushali Mukherjee who had the opportunity to train under Padma Vibhushan the Late Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra himself.

In the last six years, I have completed the Sangeet Bhushan third-year curriculum as prescribed by Pracheen Kala Kendra Candigarh and received distinction in the practical exam.

My current and rapidly expanding repertoire includes: Mangalacharan (Ganesh Vandana), Vakratunda Mahakaya, Shantakaram, Batu, Vasant Pallavi, Saveri Pallavi, Megh Pallavi, Shringar Pallavi, Desh Pallavi, Mukhari Pallavi, Chandana Charchita (Abhinaya), Radha-Rani (Abhinaya), Nagendra haraye (Abhinaya), Nava Durga, Hari Om, Jatatavi, Dasavatar and Moksha.

I am a senior performer across three dance schools: Urja, Tehai and Ipsa – all based out of Bangalore.
