Sohini Bose

Beautiful and elegant, with a smile that dazzles and mesmerizes, Sohini has been learning and teaching dance for over 12 years. Her prolific creativity allows her to experiment with styles that go beyond classical odissi – as she experiments with semi classical/folk and rabindrik forms of dance.

Born and brought up in Kolkata, a city known for its cultural passion, she has received her training in Odissi from her Guru Giridhari Nayak and Guru Poushali Mukherjee. Guru Poushali Mukherjee, who has been a student of the Late Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, is known for her extraordinary skills in abhinaya and in playing the pakhavaj. In addition, Sohini has also attended workshops by Guru Sujata Mohapatra, Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya, Guru Madhulita Mohapatra and Guru Sri Subikash Mukherjee.

Sohini has performed with the Nrityantar Dance Ensemble in Chennai, at the Pankaj Das Utsav in Bhubaneswar, at the Uday Shankar Festival in the Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata, performances in Shantiniketan and the US (Las Vegas, Chicago and San Francisco); to name a few.

Currently, Sohini runs her own dance school Urja, and takes classes both online and at Green Glen Layout, Bangalore.

Married to Palash Banerji, Sohini is also mother to heart-stoppingly adorable, Koushani, or Tuli as we all call her!
